Early British Impressionist who studied in Paris before returning to Gasgow in the 1880s. Notable for his paintings of France, Scotland and as far afield as Morocco. His painting 'Luna Sorgente' was bought by the King of Italy.
In 1904 his picture 'En Ecosse' won a mention at the Paris Salon and the Musee de Beaux-Arts bought his work. As with other early British Impressionists influenced by Claude Monet.
