Sir Alfred James Munnings celebrated for his equine portraiture and depictions of the racecourse lived for most of his life in the heart of Constable Country in Suffolk where he painted the pleasing passage of country life.
Elected to the Presidency of the Royal Academy in 1944 and knighted in 1947. Whilst unquestionably one of the finest British impressionist painters of the twentieth century he lambasted modernism in a famous and controversial radio broadcast.
