b. 1956

At the age of fourteen Stafford met L.S Lowry who encouraged him to paint. Lowry's influence is obvious, for example by way of the characters who reappear through multiple canvases such that we come to almost know them.
On the other hand Stafford's work is overwhelmingly cheery, setting up a general celebration of life and colour. His paintings are bold and beautiful and generous. We have found they are also incredibly versatile in terms of where they can be hung! In line with Stafford's generosity his canvases are often richly impastoed and his work has been exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy, collectors including HM Queen Elizabeth II, Tony Blair and Richard Curtis.
