Denise Broadley, together with Warburton and Harwood, was among the first students at Benton End.
Lucy Harwood and Denise Broadley were great friends and toured Europe together painting in Bruges, Dieppe and Brittany. In addition to Benton End Broadley attended the Ipswich School of Art and the Westminster School of Art. Broadley took Anglican religious orders and spent a period in Australia. Broadley’s paintings were exhibited at the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy. Sir Cedric Morris painted a notable portrait of Denise Broadley in 1939 whilst she was a student at the school.
